Input Jack Noise / Popping

Hey guys. Today while playing I decided to reroute my input cable, and when I unplugged it, I get static coming out of the speakers while the amp is just sitting while on the clean channel. After a few tries of quick plug-unplug action you can get it not to emite static through the speakers, but yikes. If you touch the plug to the input jack, you get popping coming through the speakers, but once the male end is actually plugged into the jack, all is fine.

Anyone ever heard of this? Could it possibly be my V1 tube?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Update:

I went ahead and just replaced V1. Problem went away. That has got to be the biggest "WTF!?" moment so far with a tube amp.
