Hey, Everyone!

After looking the past few months, I was able to track down my 2nd Mark III short- head, red stripe version...mint condition, loaded Simul-class,GEQ,Reverb, all footswitches, R2 mod..and cream tolex....wait, original manual too. 8)

Coincidence or patience, not sure..but this one matches my other head and is identical TWINS (cream tolex), except my other Mark III ( in sig line ) is a loaded purple stripe, no R2 mod. It sounds absolutely killer, so I had to venture out and grab another one. I came across a few other IIIs in my hunt, but for some reason was coming across the long chasis heads while I was looking for another short head. I didn't plan on coming across a 'red stripe'..and another cream head no less. I'm planning on using both these heads in a rig together.

I'm really stoked to get to do a side by side in these color variations. What's everyones experiences with the 'red stripe'? I know the whole closest to IIC+ deal too, so I'm just looking for what your personal experience is/was with the sound of this variation. I've already paid for my III and should be seeing it in a couple of days.

Siked as hell!

All the Best,

where/when did you get your mark III cream/white tolex purple stripe combo? it might have been mine at some point!

How did I miss a mint cream tolex redstripe short head that's fully loaded. I check classified sites like 3 times a day.

Good Find!

Sometimes you just really got to dig in.

I'll take some pics when it comes in. UPS says it'll be here Monday.

I'm already thinking of putting another early IV head in my collection. I love mixing it up and keeping everything fresh. It always seems to keep me inspired with ideas always pouring in.

All the Best,

Congrats.

I just picked up the same thing (but black) about a month ago. I absolutely love it. I like to run my OD808 as a clean boost up front, and it sounds killer. I used to think that I could nail MOP with my IVB, but after getting the red stripe I realized I wasn't as close as I thought. As far as just sound, I really think the III was a upgrade. I'm now running both amps into a stereo cab, so the IV can be my clean/ low gain rhythm/ Solo lead, and the III as my high gain "chugging" rhythm

while I don't have a C+ to compare my III to, I did do a lot of A/B-ing with other amps and found that this might be the sound your looking for. I checked out about every amp I could get my hands on, and for a do it all small combo/head that sits well in the mix, can be uber metal and country, solid build and wide tone shaping the old marks cant be beat.

I have been thinking about another Mark III also-with another 4x12 a stereo 2 half stack rig

But I already completely fill up a Jeep cherokee on the way to gigs and I can't afford a 14ft box truck

Take a picture of the rig when it is set up!!!! I sold a Studio Pre a Simul 290 and 2 Marshall cabs to downsize--now I am half way there again!!

Congrats on your score with the amp!!!

Thanks,everyone!

I received the other Mark III yesterday afternoon. It's a beast as expected! 8)
Here are a few pics of my two heads, both fully loaded. The bottom one is the one that just came in.

There's a huge tonal difference in both of these amps, not only from the stripe revision but from the tubes. The red one is definitely alot hotter ( as it was meant to be ) then the purple, using a mix of the MB STR 440 EL-34s and MB TSR 420 6L6GCs in the power section-- bringing in serious gain; touching in on almost 'new school' territory. Way hot, really chunky and sizzling like some serious steak ribeye.

I need to actually tame it back quite a bit...and since I love the sound of my purple with the older Tesla 34s & MB STR 415s, I'm gonna smooth out the red a bit by throwing in some 12ax7 Tung Sols & JJs..and some SED =C= EL-34S & 6L6GCs. That should put me in some serious singing territory.

All the Best,

Why would you make the red one sound just like your purple? If it's hotter then leave it that way! :)

I'd love to get my hands on a red stripe in such clean condition to go with my greenie. Really nice find, dude!

Thanks, man! Not essentially to get it to sound EXACTLY like the purple, but to get it better smoothed out like it. That hot sound isn't gonna leave, that's part of its 'red stripe' revision. It's fun to hear the differences, though!

Thinking about that black stripe/no stripe next...
What have I gotten myself into again?..

All the Best,
