Hi there,

I have searched before posting but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm very interested in the Mark V but the head costs about $3,600 in the UK - and that's before buying a cab!

I'm considering buying one from the USA and shipping to the UK.

Apart from finding someone willing to do this and the shipping / tax expenses the main issue is the voltage. 240v here.

However, I have read somewhere that the Mark V transformer can be wired for 240V - is that correct?

If not, I imagine it must be possible to have a 110 to 240v converter - but would there be any gotchas with this?

I guess I could also buy a Mark V second hand from the USA - of course there is more risk with this. Does anyone know if there is any difference in the internal transformers in the Mark V according to their age?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Andy

Not sure about transformer wiring, but what I do know is not to mess with them. For me, it's not worth the risk

FWIW, I would keep up the search for a 2nd hand UK model (they are out there), which will probably work out cheaper once you factor in freight, VAT, tax and the risk of damage in transit. Fixing an expensive amp not covered by warranty makes it more expensive still

I buy a lot of guitars from the US, but have never touched an amp wired for 110, despite the temptation

Good luck

Hello Andy,

I use a 110 to 220V, 1000 Watt transformer without problems here in Argentina. Just get a good, oversized unit and you´ll be fine - additionally, you will be able to use your Mark on your upcoming USA tour without it :D

Best,
Marcelo
