Actually have a vid on a pretty nice setup!

http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=41557134
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg6WT4UUgDk (excuse the clean vocals)

3 guitars

left is b-52 stack w/ ibanez 5ex
right middle single rec, b52 cab, bc rich ax
right is dual rec solo, mesa cab, ec-1000

any thoughts on the tone, guitar seperation, mix?

thanks!

Tone is great, chugga to the max! Can't really hear the solo (if there's any at all), but perhaps that's not very important for you guys.

On a side note, since you have very minimal guitar solo and/or three parts harmony, what's the purpose of having three uber-distorted guitars?

Haha, this is a song that was written before three guitars. I have to agree with your statement.

@ 0.35 there is a guitar harmony lead (2 guitars) and a driving guitar riff behind (3rd) it does that off and on until the halftime.

@ 1.35 there is a broken power chord melody with 2 guitars over a driving riff (not performed perfect in this video)

I joined the band about 6 months ago. In our 2 new songs since the addition of me at 3rd guitar there is more.

The purpose is pretty much to have thickness behind and with leads because we do alot of dual guitar leads and melodies and it helps to bring out the leads (even if two gutiars are playing the same lead or 2 playing the same 1 playing the harmony) and its pretty big during heavy parts too.

Our choruses will have more once we hit the studio and mess with them more. Our songs need a little more to them so we've added here and there to the old ones to try and make em better.

try this
its our newest song
still needs a kink or two worked out but we like it so far

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg6WT4UUgDk

beginning
riff around 0.45 carried thru the half time
solo 3:45 (not perfect)
dubbed leads here and there

(bear in mind the vocals are not the best in this video thats why i didn't post it to begin with)

Thanks for the feedback

live sound is pretty decent as far I can tell from camera mic... can hear most parts clearly (at least vox vs guitars vs bass vs drums... perhaps you could get a little separation on the guitars... but what do I know, I play in a trio.

We go through live sound issues all the time as well... Seems to come down to sound guy quite frequently... Just curious, what is your guys stage volume like? Are guys cranked through amps or are you playing at moderate levels and letting sound guy deal with levels? Also... were you guys able to get sound though monitors?

We were pretty loud at the show. I was about 10:30 on the master 11:00 on the output. Well collectlively that seems loud for me because I have another guitar on my site eqaully as loud. That may actually be a moderate volume.

The monitor sound was terrible. WAY TOO LOUD, almost ear piercing.

I know sometimes it kind of sucks to turn down amps, but if you can get good tones at low / moderate levels, mic everything up with a good sound guys and good monitors, that will usually lead to good results... stage volume should be good and you should be able to hear good mixes through the monitors at that point to have a basic idea of what the crowd is hearing...

Sadly though, it seems like this rarely happens at the bars/clubs we play.
