How would a low gain preamp tube sound in the PI of a recto?

I run a regular LPS in my PI. Not sure it would qualify as 'low gain' though.

As for the sound, it really warmed the entire amp up and gives everything a nice round feel to it.

I read the long plates have something to do with it too? I think ill go with it.

I've got a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS in mine. It's a good tube. It's not lower gain. AX7's are considered 100% gain and other tubes are rated against this. An AT7 tube is 60% gain, I think. Many use an AT7 in the PI, too, and it works very well there.

FYI (if you're thinking of preamp tubes) and in relation to the amps preamp (not the PI position), a 5751 tube is 70% gain and is a direct replacement (in terms of technical specs of the two tubes-AX7 vs 5751) of an AX7. Other tubes are compatible but their specs vary to an AX7. Regardless, users do use AU7, AY7, AT7 tubes, however, I read that an AT7 in the amps preamp stage isn't ideal. I can't remember why. Look it up/search.
