Ok, stupid question:

I am trying to change out my old pre-amp tubes in my DC-3 and I have never done this before. How do I get to them? I played around with it for a while last night and couldn't figure out how to approach them without breaking the parts holding them in and protecting them. Can someone give a quick explanation on how to do this?

It's easy.

1. Unplug the amp.
2. Unscrew the metal bar that goes all the way accross the back of the amp.
3. Turn the amp upside down.
4. Remove the clamps that slide over the top of the power tubes (the big ones).
5. Wiggle the tubes from side to side until they come loose, and pull them out.
6. Release the plastic clips that hold the preamp tube cover in place, and swing the cover away.
7. Wiggle the preamp tubes from side to side and pull them out.
9. When putting in the new tubes, line up the pins with the tube socket pin holes and ease the tube firmly into place. Don't force them in.

That's all there is to it. If you have bought specific preamp tubes for specific locations (e.g. Eurotubes complete re-tube kit), remember V1 is the socket closest to the input jack, and V6 is the one that's furthest away.

That's all there is to it.
