OK, here's the story.
I replaced the original 5Y3 in my LSS with an NOS Tung Sol. That one behaved strangely, in that after switching to the 15w or 5w setting, the sound died out and then came back slowly, as if the rectifier was warming up.
So I put the original 5Y3 in. That worked fine for a few weeks and then failed, blowing a fuse.
I replaced that rectifier tube with another Mesa 5Y3. That worked fine for a week or two. Now, tonight, when I switch to the 15w position, the volume goes WAY down, and when I go to 5w it's very, very quiet indeed. On the clean channel, it sounds distorted.
Am I just having bad luck with rectifiers, or is there something else going on here? Any help from your experience will be much appreciated.
