currently running a Mesa Triple Rec, g major, multiple stomp boxes, GCX, Ground Control Pro into dual 4x12 mesa cabs.

I want to add a second amp (not looking at mixing the amps) separate signal. I've read multiple forums and each have different answers. At this point I'm confused on the slave out. Can I run slave out into a second amp and still be able to keep the two seperate?

I know I've got options with the GCX for adding a 2nd amp but that brings up another question:

For large shows I want to run a full stack and have the same signal to both cabs. Small shows I run half stack and want the same signal.

What do you recommend for set up and how do I run the speaker cables to accomplish this.

Hope this is somewhat sensible.

If you are slaving into the other amp then you are just using the power section of the other amp to drive more speakers with the same signal. The slave would run from one amp into the other amps's effects return. If you split the guitar signal and run that into the inputs of both amps then you can use them together or separately. And when used together they could be on different channels etc. I mix amps and use an rg16 which is similar to the gcx. You will be susceptible to ground loops in either situation though.

thanks for the reply.

As for the speaker cable conection, would I run two cables out of the first amp to the two seperate cabs? or, would I run 1 cable to the first cab and jump it to the second cab?

or, do I go slave out to the second amp and from that amp I run the cables?

Thank you

Both amps must have speakers on them or you will fry the amps. So you would run half the speakers from one amp and the other half from the other amp. If your goal is just to run a full stack you can achieve that with one amp, both cabs can be connected to the same head. Down load the manual it has a bunch of examples of how to hook up multiple cabs to your amp.

Once again, thank you.

I was looking to add a second head for more options with tone and such. It sounds like one head to one cab and the other to the other cab. The problem with that for me is small shows I just use one 4x12 so that set up would not work.
