Hello all,

I'm wanting to record some side by side clips of the V and the IIC+ - I've read the guide on how you should set them to make them sound the same, but to be honest, I'm a tad confused by it... Anywho, I've attached a photo of how I run my V in IIC+ mode, I'd like to transfer these over to the C+ just so I can do my best to get a similar sound out of both, or to really hear the difference (and let other people hear the difference) ... I just don't know what knobs to pull and what transfers to what, since there's a few more controls on the IIC+ vs. the V... I'm sorry, I should be able to figure this out, but I'm just in a funk this evening I guess..

Thanks!

From what I've heard in you tube you wont get them to sound the same. I'm not trying to put down the V by any means but it is way more compressed and not as bright as the original IIC+ IMHO. I'd be trying to get the V to sound like the C+

Here's what I think will work:

Volume 1: Pulled, 7.5 (This is what Volume 1 is internally set as for the V)
Treble: Pulled, 6
Bass: Pull if desired, 1.5-2
Middle: 0-1
Master: Pushed IN (Pull Deep is turned off in the V) Set to taste
Lead Drive: Pull if desired  , 8.5 (The Gain control on the V corresponds to the Drive control on a C+)
Lead Master: Pulled, Set to taste.

This should mirror your V settings.

Thanks! I'm going to try that... I'm sending my IIC+ to Mike B. tomorrow, it's sounding pretty poor these days.. I had a preamp tube go out last week, and it's really flubby when I'm muting... and the attack just isn't there... it doesn't roawr like it should, when it gets back, I'm retubing it... then I'm going to do some good side by side recordings of the two, side by side, with the same riffs and similar settings.. I know it's been done, but it's one of those things I've wanted to do since I got into Marks... I really think I got a rad tone, that sounds really good and close to a C+... but we'll see.

What are you getting done to your C+ to get rid of the flubby sound while mutting? Did he suggest a cap job would clean it up? I've got a call into Mike B. and thinking of sending mine in for some work.

I'd like to hear some of your MK V clips in the C+ setting!

I haven't even mentioned the flabby sound to Mike B... I called him when I first got the amp back in May, and he advised at that time that it for sure needed a cap job, and maybe more... I'm sure the power tubes in there are old and worn, I get a lot of tube noise.. less in Class A, but it's bad when I fire it up in Simul-Class... on top of it just not sounding right... So, I decided to send it to Mike B., let him work his magic, and then have a new set of tubes waiting for it... I had my V3 preamp tube go out last week, and I got a cheap replacement just to see if it was the problem, and that kind of messed my tone up a good bit too.. so I figured, let's just do it all now and not have to worry about it later. Also having the power tubes upgraded to porcelain sockets....

I lost my RA # though, waiting on a call back from Rich to get it so I can get it shipped out.

I just spoke to Mike B. about 2 hours ago about a tune up and putting an EQ into my C+. He said he'd get the stuff together and call me in a couple weeks to send it in. He said they would do caps in it as part of the tune up and it would nake it a little tighter in the low end.

I shipped my IIC+ to Mesa it'll be there tomorrow... Rich told me it'd be roughly 2 weeks.. going to be a long 2 weeks, luckily I got my V to keep me company until then.... I'm anxious to hear any observations Mike B., as the amp is a hybrid of sorts... should be cool, and should sound great with new tubes once it's back.
