Since my Marshall is in the workshop getting some modwork done, I have all the more time with my Mesa rig. So I decided to try out the MIDI continuous control. I expected it to be a lot more difficult to set up, but it's really simple and I was able to dial in a low/mid-gain crunch tone, and then turn it into a a mid-high gain tone by "flooring" the pedal. So basically I programmed it to make three positive changes simultaneously.

One thing that I couldn't figure out, however, is to make the base preset high gain, and LOWER the Gain, Lead 2 Drive and Dynamic Voice by backing off the pedal. I programmed it correctly, by making the changes negative (108 instead of 08).

Here's what happens:
I switch to the high gain preset with the pedal floored. Result: Values - high gain, pedal - floored.
I back off the pedal. Values drop instantly to low gain, then rise back up when I keep backing the pedal off. Result: Values - still high gain, pedal - backed off.
When I increase the pedal again, it lowers the values. Result: Values - low gain, pedal floored.

What I need is:
I switch to the high gain preset with the pedal floored. Result: Values - high gain, pedal - floored.
I back off the pedal completely, values go down. Result: Values - low gain, pedal backed off.
When I increase the pedal again, it increases the values. Result: Values - high gain, pedal - floored.

The manual says that if the pedal is working backwards, you gotta unplug it, back it off, plug it back in. Since I'm using my GT-6's expression pedal, I unplugged the MIDI cable from the GT, backed it off and plugged it back in. It still behaves as described above.

I tried turning the pedal "off" on the GT, backing it off and turning it back "on" but it didn't work either.

It seems to me that no matter what kind of change you program on the TriAxis (positive/negative), "accelerating" the pedal will increase the values if the programmed change is positive and decrease the values if the programmed change is negative. So if you program a negative change, it will happen when you floor the pedal, not when you back it off (what I'm going for). I hope I'm making sense.

Any ideas?

I think you've done everything right by the book, so to speak, but what you actually need is for the pedal to work "backwards" for you. Only then will it not return to "base" when the pedal is backed off.

How to make that happen is not explained, as it only explains how to correct it if it happens in the first place, if you see what I mean.

You'd really need to find one that already is in the backward mode, maybe ?

I'll try this later with a Yamaha mfc10 ..... and got exactly the same result as you.

Yeah, I can't make it work backwards.

The BOSS Exp. pedal has the ability to be reversed - but only when it has to control devices ON the unit itself (for example, Chorus level or Wah operation or Foot Volume). I think that if I had a separate pedal and some sort of conversion device (that's what's used in the manual) I could solve this.
