wondering if anyone has first hand experience with an upgraded choke in a recto.

thinking about springing for a MM choke but as usual want opinions first.

is it worth it?

hopefully someone has done the mod separately from an OT swap and can just comment about the choke itself.

My amp tech said it will make a difference but I'm kinda thinking lately he is just trying to make money off people, reason being is he quoted me $225 to do the bias mod!!!

No thanks, I'll spend the few bucks and get a good soldering iron and the parts and do it myself.

The 2 channel recto series uses great quality chokes and transformers, I wouldn't worry about it until one of them is faulty.

There is absolutely no reason for the swap...pointless!

thanks man, guess i'll save my money for some other useless piece of gear...... hahaha

on a side note, I'd like to hear your opinion on the Mercury transformers, specifically the OT

I'm pretty content with my tone and tube choices, but always wonder if there is more to be had.

the clips i've heard on youtube seem to just make it a little clearer, not as stuffy

sounds like your guy is an ass

If the mm choke is a bigger unit (more Henries) there might be a "slight" reduction in amp hum and it "may" stiffen the power section up a little more and give it a little more punch when you are running the amp hard. Whether you will be able to really notice any difference at all is another story.

Yeah, I was like "what!!!???"

The most expensive part would be a good soldering iron, which I really dont even consider as part of it because ill have it for future use.

The power supply filtering is already pretty well efficient. A different choke isn't going to make a huge difference, since the parts in a Mesa are already great quality. For sound, the transformers could be changed, but really, putting in bigger iron makes it more difficult to overdrive them and the stock trannies are, again, great quality. For me, the MM stuff is cool if a person wants to experiment, has a part failure, or has more money than they can spend in one lifetime, but as a dollar for dollar mod, there are other options that are cheaper.
