I was looking into buying a Shure SM 57 mic for recording my amp but I figured I would consult the experts here first. So whats a good mic to record with?

Many recording engineers prefer a good large diaphragm condenser mic. These do not color the sound, unlike the SM57 and most other dynamic mics. The logic is that you can always add eq in the mix, but it is difficult to remove once introduced by the mic.

Of course an SM57 is a helluva lot less expensive and seems to do a good enough job most of the time, so it is a good place to start.

Sennheiser e609 - I like it alot more than the Shure SM57

I own the e606 (I think it's called "e609 Silver" in the US), which is still better than the SM57 (to my ears, of course) but costs roughly the same price.

Honestly I prefer the Beta 57, I just recently recorded some clips with it and ill upload them and post them.. sounds great.. has a nice upper EQ to eleminate the dull/muddyness of most recordings prior to EQ in a Desktop audio workstation. Check it out... You wont be dissapointed. That or a condensor.. Try a KSM 27 from sure.. sounds great right agains the grill of the amp.

KSM 32* Sry bout that ****oo.. all these numbers and you seem to forget things at times
