When I saw them/him open for Isis a few months back JB was playing through GR2 or something on a laptop, straight into the PA, and it sounded awful.

yeah... I love the JCM800 for the JCM800 thing--turn both knobs up a ways, smack it with a little boost, and Rock Teh F!ck Owt. My bandmate has a 1983-ish JCM800 and an SG. Awww yeah. I sound so much better than I actually am through that amp.

That said, it's pretty much useless for playing anything clean, anything that requires any kind of definition in the low end, or if you want to use, you know, an effect.

A JCM800 is kind of like your last girlfriend from your hometown-- she was really nice, knew one really good trick in the sack, and is fun to catch up with now and then. But she drinks Coors Lite intentionally, listens to the "80s 90s and whatever!" station, and is now having kids with a tow truck driver. I like my women and amps a little more... complicated
