Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone's had experience opening the back of a standard 2x12 rectifier cab?

I unscrewed all the screws in the back but the panel didn't seem to want to just pop out - is it glued or in some other way secured? I know the socket plate is glued as well as screwed in so I was wondering if the main panel was the same?

Just wanted to ask before I tried to lever it out and damage something because there's something I missed :)

I had the same prob with a 1x12, and asked the same question
even called Mesa cuz I could not get that thing out

it is "not" glued in
but on mine there was a little gasket type thing that
gets kinda sticky, and it's a tight fit
I finally put a bit more oomph into it, and it came out

but that beotch was in there

but no glue

Ah, thanks for that!

Guess I will just have to give it a bit more to get it out!

Any recommendation on the best way to get leverage into it? As its all flush to the body its hard to get anything into it where you can get a grip to pull it out.

I swear I read a thread a few months ago about a guy who had the same issue and after attempting to pry it loose with a butter knife which he suggested not trying,,,, I believe he said the best way was to carefully unscrew the jack plate located on the back and then you should be able to get your fingers in to get some leverage. Try that,, good luck

This is correct. It will give you a "handle" in which to pull it out.

The best way I have found to remove the back panel is to get a couple thick and wide putty knives and insert them into the seams between the back panel and side panels. Wiggle them until you see the whole panel shift and then use the "handle" you made by removing the speaker jack plate. It won't be easy, especially if it is the first time, but after that, it shouldn't be too much of a fight.... 8)

+1 on the speaker jack - unscrewed it comes off pretty easy. Turn it sideways and you can get it back into the cab then you've got the hole to grab and pull the back off.

That's exactly how I got the back off of my Recto 4X12. The back is a perfect fit, and it's a tight fit but that's a good "sealed" cabinet for ya, no air leaks.
