In the relentless pursuit of tone, I'm looking for ideas on settings for the optimal rock tone (think Scorpions, AC/DC - not Maiden, Lamb of God, etc.). I looked a long time at amps and decided on the Dual Rec over Marshall. I describe it whereas Marshall cuts through the mix like a knife, Mesa bludgeons you with a blunt instrument. I'm looking for that balance between the two and I thought Dual Rec could get me closer to it. I use a strat and a Carvin California Carve Top so ideas on both single coil and humbucker use is great. I typically end up on Ch 2 Vintage with gain at 11, volume 12-1, bass 10, mid 9, treble 11, presence 11. Sounds good coming out of my 2-12 Roadster cabs but I notice when I step out front of the stage to hear it through the mix it's not very well defined is the best way I can put it. I get that full Mesa sound, but would like a little more cut. The only effects I run is a little delay on a Line6 DL4 and a Sonic Stomp pedal to clear up the sound.

Thanks for the tips!

You might need an EQ in the loop... Or try bumping your mids up on the amp's EQ. Mids tend to help cut through a mix...

Try channel 2 on raw, controls all around noon, throw some el34's in there and some gz34 rectifier tubes in it and you'll be right in ac/dc territory. You'll also have to crank the output to get those ac/dc tones, and another trick is turning the gain up to about 3oclock on raw with everything else noon and rolling the guitar volume back a bit for rhythm and rolling it back on for leads.
