Hi all,

I just bought a new 5:25. I was lucky to get it for a reasonable price. Impressive all through so far! I've been playing at low volumes at home so I haven't tasted the full range yet - but judging by my experience with the Mark II I had ages ago, I think I'm in for a treat once our drummer comes back from the holidays. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and the amp really boosts the great guitar the way it should.

When I went to test the amp, I wanted to try out the clean channel first. The dude set that one up and said: "Crank the controls the way you like. Here's this, there's that." He came back 10 minutes later - and I just sat there grooving with the clean channel, thinking: "Wow. What a sound!" or the wordless equivalent thereof (mind you - I'm a hard overdrive guy at heart!). This is the first time since my Mark II that I can just PLAY without worrying over how I could improve the sound. Thanks to everyone who have been involved making these great instruments!

NOTE: this is not a paid ad. I seriously mean what I say about the amp! 8)

Just got one myself yesterday. I auditioned a 5:25, 5:50, and a transatlantic 30. The ta-30 certainly had some great tone, but the 5:25 was pretty much everything I wanted at a much more affordable price point.

One day I'm going to sell some gear and get myself a 5:25 with the 10" speaker to use as a grab and go/rehearsal amp. I'd rather have 2 Express series amps (1 for gigs, 1 for smaller gigs, grab and go, rehearsals) than some of the other junk I have laying around right now.

Word of caution... I have read comments about the "boxiness" of the 10" speaker.

Yeah, it won't really matter for me, since I have the 5:50 1x12 already. It will literally just be a grab and go amp.

I was "worried" about the same and found those "concerns" to be non-issues. What you have to know is simply that the 10" has its own voice, so don't expect it to sound like a smaller 12 ...it's like having a different flavored amp. Only you can decide whether that flavor suits you or not.

FWIW, when I got my 525 I thought I had a superb grab-n-go practice amp. Little did I know I'd like it so much as to start using it live. I've now grown very attached to it, and in addition to a its "practice amp" role, my little 525 occupies a particular tonal spot for me alongside my main gigger, the DC5.
