Hi I was wanting to build an extention cabinet for my Rectoverb. The reason is I would like to add better bottom end and move a little more air. What I was thinking was building a custom closed cabinet that was essentially the same size the speaker area of my combo. The plan was to build it out of 3/4" birch and using a Black Shadow, the same speaker that's in the combo. Any thoughts or suggestions? I really don't want to change the width of the cabinet so if the dimensions are wrong I could baffle it.

Thanks in advance.

I used to have a rectoverb and I loved running it off a marshall jcm 800 cab. I am not sure what speakers were in it but it was closed-back.

If I were going to buy a cab, I would build a closed back 1x12. I would use a locking box-miter router bit to build the cabinet. I would also use an 8-ohm v30 or weber in it. I would also angle the speaker upwards a bit. I would connect both speakers to the 4-ohm taps on the back.

This would give you the stage volume that the rectoverb is great for, and a punchy sound you can throw out onto the dancefloor.

If you don't angle the speaker a bit, I would build it so it can go on top of the combo.

If I were you, I'd build an 8-ohm 2x12 instead. Sure, it's a bit heavier, but it will give you options.

Make sure your birch is void less, baltic. It cuts a lot nicer and you can miter the edges nice as well.

I was using an 8 ohm, vertical 2x12 with V-30's and liked it a lot. Top speaker was angled up a bit and it made all the difference.
