My 5:50 express which has to mesa 440 6L6's in it. when I checked the bias I read 40ma at 422 plate volts. Is that to hot for these tubes? the amp sounds killer but i don't want to blow something. i thought it should be around 30 ma, right?

Hey,Jerry,New toy?Havent heard from you in a while.I'm not familiar with the 4406L6's,but a 6L6GC can go about 45-50ma at 422 plate volts in class AB.If that 440 is more like a plain 6L6,then 30ma would be safer.

Hey stokes! how are you? (yes new toy) I thought i was gone from the boogie life, but I plugged into this amp, to check out a guitar and was blown away. I hope the honeymoony last LOL. I did notice that 6l6GC tubes are fine at that bias but i wondered the same thing as you. i'll have to call bogie to make sure. Every boogie i ever had was always running to cold, maybe that's part of the great tone I'm getting out of this amp. Hey a cool amp to fool around with is, the epiphone valve junior, tube, 5 watts, and $99. i picked one up and did some mods from the forums and amp sounds great. you could turn it into a monster.

I just took a look at the tube description on the Mesa web site and I'd have to say that 440 is a 6L6GC or equivalent,a 6L6 or 6L6GB wouldnt take the 422volts very well. That Mesa 440 is Chinese, try some NOS's in that amp.

Your right, I just e-mailed you the mesa response. here it is for other express guys

Hello there ,

The E50 is biased slightly hotter than most other Boogies, but it is not too hot to pose any danger to the tubes or the amp.

Best Regards,

Marcus Daniel
