Here's the scoop; I've sold my DC-5, and am on the prowl for a lower wattage, multiwatt combo, specifically the 5:25+ and/or the ROV25. I've briefly played a regular Mini Rec, as well as the 5:25+, but not the ROV25 (which I understand to be very similar to the Mini Rec).

I've got a hard time picking one, but I can only do one in 2014. The upshot? I can get another in 2015, for certain monetary reasons. :D

The question is, are they redundant? Do they encroach each other in tones, or are they sufficiently different from each other that eventually having both isn't stupid?

I really liked the Express combo, and that had made my decision up over the Rec due to the all-in-oneness of it, but then they had to go ahead and come out with the ROV25.

Thanks in advance!

The ROV 25 *is* a Mini Rec with reverb. Same circuitry, and the ROV has hard a by-passed fx loop when not in use. Other than that, same amp. Think of the ROV 25 as the Mini Rec version 2.0. Mesa has confirmed that assessment.

The big difference I've heard from people who have played the new ROV combo is the Fillmore speaker; they say it's quite a contrast to the V30.

A mate of mine has an Express. I have a Mini Rec. I've played both. I think the Mini Rec is a more versatile amp. For what it is, the Mini Rec is almost impossible to beat. So, I'll extrapolate that to the new ROV. IMO, of course.

I think what I'll end up doing is going for the ROV25 head+straight mini rec cab now, and then finding a complimentary amp in 2015. It seems to not only do the higher gain stuff well, but also that edge of break up clean that I dig with delays. Thanks for the info!
