hi all, I will just start by stating that i am a complete newbie when it comes to anything guitars so please bear with me

currently i have a dual rectifier 3 channel and i love it, its rough and for what my band plays its great, however at home i have been trying to dial in a good pop-rock kind of sound but it just sounds to abrasive. I brought this up on another board and i have done alot of thread searching and found that alot of people use EQ's in the loop and people suggested this could be the best solution.

here lies my question, alot of people swear by the mxr 10 band eq which looks great, unfortunately the only ones i can find are overseas on ebay (im in australia) and are a bit pricey because our economy aint flash right now, or i can source a boss 7 band eq for a more reasonable price.

will it be worth my while copping the price for the 10 band or will this boss one do the trick?

thanks!

IMO the MXR 10 band is well worth the money, why would you spend all that money on a good amp and then put a piece of junk like the Boss in the signal chain.

I have the MXR KFK 10 band, and I use it to cut out a bit of "nasal" tone in my Nomad 55 that comes in at about 500HZ. The MXR 108 is another of their 10 band units that is a bit less expensive. If MXR made a 7 band, I think that would serve the purpose, but they don't. When I first got my KFK delivered and opened the box, the wording on one of the inside flaps said "Here comes the Pain". In my case, it should have said "There goes the Pain" as I hated that nasal tone, and it got rid of it. The KFKs are about 140 US and the 108s are about $120 US -- all plus shipping. I guess shipping to Oz could get a little high. Maybe you could scout around and let us know what brands of graphic EQs they do sell there. That way, we could advise you on the best of what's locally available to you. But everybody who has owned the Boss has said it is noisy and unreliable. So much so that there was a guy who was going to GIVE me his used Boss, and I declined and shelled out for the MXR! But maybe there are other brands there that are good?

BTW, how do you like me screen name? :D

TC,
If i were you i'd stay away from the boss. I've had both the Boss GE-7 and the MXR M108 and my main complaint about the boss is that it's noisy. Lots of "hiss" to it. This MXR has never let me down. Not sure how you're looking to run this, but you probably don't need the KFK version. it'd be an added expense for a tribal paintjob and a second output.

ebay has some good deals at times, but you're best bet are definitely the forums. Even if you don't see a for sale ad, you may consider a "want to buy" type of ad.
