so i've always been a fan of recording...not just guitar parts, but all the instruments. i started out as a drummer and i'd still say today that the drums are more natural to me than guitar...but i love both equally.
as i'm looking towards the future i hope to one day have my own studio in my basement. i'm pretty sure that i would want to have an electronic drum set in the studio permanently. i'm loving the looks of the top-end roland set with the td-20. that module allows 8 outputs which separate the drums signal. that is what i love about it...so you can fix the mix later. i know that acoustic drums can never be totally recreated electronically, but the simplicity of not having to bother with mics and tuning far outweigh the downsides.
now, having said all of that...would electric drums really need compression/limiting before the signal hits the recording interface? More specifically, would i need 8 channels of compression? i know i will have compressors in the studio, but i am wondering if i would need 8 channels worth to be dedicated for the drums?
none of this will come to fruition anytime soon, i'm just planning now...cause it's fun.
any other advice on what you think would be useful for me to look in to would be most appreciated.
