So i took in my Single rectifier to get the the series FX loop mod and the tech says one of my output tubes was arcing and blew out the screen grid resistor...
I just bought those tubes a month ago from eutotubes, they were the KT77's. And just a couple weeks before i had a preamp tube die on me aswell (also from eurotubes). I bought the whole high gain KT77 set after reading all the good reviews about eurotubes. The only tubes the store i go to has the EH 6l6 or Svetlana EL34. I really liked those KT77's because they sounded really good. I'm pretty angry, because i just have to keep spending money on stuff after it fails on me.
I like to play Tool, Dream theatre, Metallica, pretty much any sort of metal and rock out there. Which tube will cover those genres really well? I had 6l6's before but didnt like them because the bottom end was really loose, but the El34's are more for british rock and such. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you plan to pursue the warranty on those KT 77's? I think a lot of us would be curious to see how Eurotubes handles this. I presume you told them what amp they were for? :?:

I had a pair of regular JJ el34's that died well before they should have.
I use SED 'wing C' now, but I have tried EH with good luck (so far) and the quality control is supposed to be pretty good. Never used Svetlana's. Whatever you decide, just be sure they are rated for a Mesa amp.
Good luck! :D

I emailed Eddie at eurotubes and he said I could ship them to him and see what's the problem because he doesn't believe what my tech said about the resistor blowing. I guess I'll buy the el34's for now and send the kt77's back to see what's the problem.

Hmmm...interesting. :?
I hear a lot of "rumors" (and I say rumors as I have never bought from them) that Eurotubes does not like to admit that a JJ tube from them could be defective.

But take that with a grain of salt...just hearsay, ...so far...

Good luck with that! :)

I too have heard that very same thing.

As for JJ's, I want to like them, but can't get into them. The couple of 12ax7's I have had were very inconsistent from one to the other. My rectifier sounded exactly like my old JCM900 (VERY fuzzy), and it turned out to be one of the preamp tubes. Strange.

I went with the el34's and man are they nice! It's like this big punch hit me in the face when I first heard them. They sound better than the JJ's in my opinion.
