i know with the roadster everyone realized that when they removed the loop from the circuit the amp got so much better, is this the case with the V?

Adding additional circuitry like the effects loop and pedals can potentially change the amp's tone for the better or worse. Pedals without true bypass can severely degrade the tone. I think there will definitely be a trade-off. Proper level setting can aleviate this problem somewhat. In some cases re-eqing might be necessary if a pedal removes some frequencies off. Ultimately the power amp can only amplify the signal it gets from the chain and it is imperative that your pedals have to be set so as to have the best possible signal at the effects return to amplify in the power section. I think unity gain at every point in your effects chain will make this issue almost unnoticeable as will using true bypass pedals.

To answer your question fully, I tried this experiment the day I got the Mark V. The amp sounded great with the effects loop hard bypassed. With the bypass switch set to include the effects loop (and no pedals in the loop) I did not notice any tone degradation. If there was it was almost unnoticeable. It's a different matter altogether once you start adding pedals.

I notice the tone is slightly darker and distorted... very mild though. I can hear it by myself but don't notice it live.

Loop in... but..... it is so minimal and in some ways sounds better... it's not a bad thing at all IMHO.

Hey,

When I have my FX loop switched on, the tone is a little quieter and distorted. Any suggestions as to why this might be happening? I have it set up as so:

Send
Memory man (delay)
Small Stone (phase)
Flanger Hoax (flanger)
2880 (looper)
Return

It effects the tone, but it's good both ways. I seem to notice a little thickness and a bit of haze when the loop is on. Things are more immediate and clear when hard bypassed, which some crave and others are scared of.

Since my last post on this I had increased my channel masters all above 12:00 and it kept getting worse... then another post relating to the EL volume lower and distorted sounds made me go back and read the manual closer  , I have all my channel masters between 9:30 and 12:00 now, the EL Send at slightly past 12:00 ... The thickness or haze is 98% gone... still without the Loop, it is a touch more immediate but like you said... in a good way too!
