The first time I owned a Mark V, I was constantly struggling to find any use for Edge mode - it sounded anemic and icepicky. This time around, it sounds amazing and it's rapidly becoming my go-to setup for most rock and hard rock material. I'm not saying that it sounds like a Marshall, but I'm definitely using it any place that I'd normal consider to be Marshall territory.

I recorded this tonight using Edge mode on my Mark V. I'm using an OD-808 as a clean boost, but that's it.

I'm using 6L6 tubes, the fx loop is disabled, the amp is cranked, and I'm running it through a cabclone to keep the cops away and stay married.

Having listened to it a few more times I might have dialed down the presence or the 6k slider slightly, but beyond that my biggest complaints are about the player. I love this tone.

Sounds great, one of my favourite songs growing up. How do you go about your backing tracks if you don't mind me asking?

Ironically, the only Marshall gear involved in producing the song originally was apparently a cabinet - so I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about here - except that I really like the tones I'm getting now and did not before.

That site is great. All signed up and ready 8)

Your tone sounds very marshally to me, not bang on but easily close enough.
Always thought that song was a marshall, that might just be my hazy memory of the 90's. All the music video's had marshalls in them as far as i can remember. I assumed everyone, except metallica and santana whom i did know used boogies, used marshalls back then.

Back to the Mark V and i love the Edge mode with a clean boost, not its biggest fan on its own but the boost just pushes it enough to give it some girth.

Great playing by the way.

I tried to listen to your recording, got a red page warning instead claiming unsafe to continue. Oh well. Blame it on the Russians hacking email servers....LOL

Thanks for the link on the backing tracks. Never considered that before. Awesome. 8)

Yow! I originally tried posting the clip to soundcloud but it was flagged as copyrighted material and disabled.

I'm sharing it now using droplr, which actually should be safe. I'm not sure why you are seeing the error you got :(

Here's a public dropbox link if that works better: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1155152/plush.mp3

That was edge mode?????

That sounded great dlpasco. I wish My Mark V could sound like that.. I almost thought you recorded that with a JP-2C as that is very similar how mine sounds.

I'll go back and repro it, but it was pretty standard settings except that the fx loop was bypassed and the channel master was at about 10 o'clock (LOUD). Boosted wit an OD-808.

I recorded this with my cab clone, otherwise it would have blown me out of my studio.

OD808 controls are at 9 o'clock, noon, and 3 o'clock. A bit of gain, tone about half way, level up at 75%.

I never change those settings, it's pretty much my go to for the pedal on anything: clean channel boost, dual rectifier boost, crunch channel boost, ego boost, etc. :)

I just got very close to my original sound with the following settings. I was just using a traditional V for the eq so this time I switched to using the channel 2 eq preset instead.

15tUz+

177Ak+

Vuwq+

I love this amp so much.

I appreciate you taking the time to show this!

I don't have that OD pedal, but I'm sure I can find one of mine to cover that part of the tone. I'll try this one soon. Be interesting to see how that EQ set pans out with the 2x12 vertical recto cab.

yes this is going back a ways but man I'm happy to have stumbled across it... edge mode is the one voicing that I haven't totally got on board with it, for all the reasons that were originally posted :) thanks for sharing.
