Are Nomads really that bad??? What the story with these things?

I think they are great amps, but they do seem to have more probs than other Mesas for some reason. They have a somewhat cheaper look to them, too. I'd love to have a shorthead 45 though. They seem to be very versatile, but not great at any one thing I suppose. Most amps have their niche whereas the Nomad is somewhat lost in the Mesa lineup/lineage.

Straight stock mine was pretty vanilla, nothing to rave about and it takes some time to dial them in. A simple change of toobs really does make a big difference. I like el34's in mine. I've owed it for 7 yrs. with no problems and I get compliments all the time on how good it sounds. Sure I'd like a Road King but can't justify the cost right now. I'm NOT selling. Sorry.
