I am in the process of converting a Mark III rackmount back into a combo cab. The cab I bought didn't come with a fan and the rack fan cable is too short. My likely choices are add some cable to mount it where it's supposed to go, mount it on the other side of the shell or leave it off. Thoughts?

I've noticed Mesa has gone with smaller fans lately, with a switch to shut them off for recording purposes, in needed, and I wonder if these fans are really needed or just a 'hold-over' idea from the past. Most tube combos these days don't have fans, fwiw.

In short yes, heat is the main source in electronic waredown .

I wanna keep it at at a good cool temp, a tube amp generates ALOT of heat , tread it as a small fire

My 60 watter never had a fan and never had any overheating problems.

If yours is a 100/60 simul, then yes; a fan would be recommended. (I believe they came stock with them)

My simul was without a fan for a month time it got insanly hot, so i bourgt a standalone fan to blow air at the back side, after i got a new style mesa fan the temp is under control.

Back then When the amp got really hot it started to sound compresed and fizzy, so its somthing to take seriously IMO

Ain't no such thing as a "100/60 simul".
But if there was, it would have a fan.
