Hi guys, I am pretty noob in the recording world so I would need advice from more experienced people.

My PC DAW is loaded with Cubase 4 and an RME9632 as audio interface, which as pretty decent A/D conveters.

On the other side, I have my Single Recto and cab with an oppotunity to get SM57 for at a very low price.

Now here is the question:

Do I need a preamp or anything else between the SM57 and the audio interface (RME9632) ?

If so, any suggestion from a preamp that would fit an SM57 and an RME card?

Thanks in advance.

+1 yes.

would paste a budget mixer (tapco, behringer) between A/D and SM57.
gives you better opportunities for mixing later:

- preamp is already included
- integrated headphone amp
- able to mix pc signal of recorded tracks with incoming SM57 signal
- record dry and listen wet
- process recorded signal through any FX processor
- better sensitivity of dynamic mic

to name a few ...
