so i got this amp in a trade, and have about 200 dollars invested in it. the PI preamp tube was so far gone, if i tapped the shell casing around it, i could hear it ring throughout the speakers for a good 5 seconds. so i put a very old 12ay7 tube in there, and then the power tubes were GT (yuck), and they were very much so dead. I put four old Sylvania tubes in it (came from a peavey Mace that was in storage for its whole life, so basically new),
OH HEY... Theres the clean channel! the gain was tighter, and there was much less gain, but ti sounded better.
the blues channel was oh so sweet.
anyone got any recommendations for an in-between set of tubes for this? I love these cleans, the gain is okay, but i want a little more oomph, and im tube-tarded.
what are your tube experiences with the dual rec?
