I was just playing my mark IVA....and the sound was a little off. Some gain was missing. While I was playing I noticed that the EQ light was on, but a bit dull, even though the EQ switch was off. SO I clicked it ON and then off..when all of a a sudden I see smoke coming out of my amp!!!! and a really bad smell. I shut it off immediately. I haven't opened it up yet, but I am obviously going to have to take it to a tech. The pre-amp tubes are just a week old and the power tubes about 2 years old. They were glowing correctly and nothing else seemed off.

Anyone want to take a guess on WTF just happened? lol

Thanks

Hmm....first thought seeing 'loss of gain' makes me think blown power tube right off the bat.

Or, maybe just a blown fuse.

Either or is a quick 2-second fix.

Give them both a quick look before taking it to a tech. You might be able to diagnose it yourself without having to spend the money for someone else to do it.

Smoke might have been from a grid resistor being cooked from a bad power tube. If you handy with a soldering iron you can get the part from boogie (Or the value) and pick it up from an electronics supply and repair it your self.
Re-tube every year or sooner!

Could smoke also be from a filter cap going? Just wondering...unfortunatly I'm horrible with a soldering iron. I've done some work on a couple of practice amps I own (2 old Acoustics) and I barely got those running so...it looks like I'll have to spend some $$$ on a tech.

Thanks
