I've been playing around trying to get THAT sound. I get a nice sound when i stand close to the speaker box but then i step back a few metres from the speakers and it sounds harsh. If I dial in a nice sound from back a few metres then move off to the side or move closer to the speakers then the sound is very bottom heavy.

What should I do ??

Cheers

it depends on what your overall goal is.....you will never get THAT sound from all angles.....when you are up close you get the benefit of the proximity effect and the bass sounds are highlighted some.....when i program my sounds i consider the fact that i am primarily programming knwoing that I will be placing a beta 57a an inch from the speaker to record with......when i step back from my cab it osunds different than what i hear when i record it........when i played live alot i actually had different sounds programmed depending on how the sounds of my guitar were to reach the audience.....if it was a big gig that had a bif pa system and my rig was properly miced then i used the sounds i programmed for recording....but if the audience was mostly hearing my guitar through my cabinet instead of mic thru the pa then i used sounds that were EQed differntly that sounded better to my ears when standing several feet from the cab.

Thanks for your input. I am mainly trying to get a live sound - but we're usually miked through a PA. I like the idea of having two different sounds depending on the situation.

Cheers
