DC-5 Distortion on effects loop

I have my chorus and delay connected to my effects loop on my dc-5. I need to turn the level pot all the way to hear the effects. The problem is when I use my chorus and I play hard the sound becomes very distorted and therefore not useable. Do I need to do this serial mod or is it something else can be causing this ? Thanks.

Try swapping a good tube for V3.

Still no joy - I have re-tubed with new tubes and still have the problem...

Try putting the chorus in the guitar line before the amp input and leave the delay in the loop, see how that works because that's the way I'd do it.

If the are analog pedals, I would do as Markedman says. Most pedals sound best in front of the input in the signal chain on a DC.

Thing is, I have a TC nova system and the whole thing goes in the effects loop. I have pedals and could put a separate chorus or flanger etc in front, but would have preferred to have kept the Nova as it has beautiful modulations, reverbs and delays.
