Crackling Lone Star Special 1*12

This amp has a great sound but mine develops a frying, crackling noise after being switched on.
Sometimes it goes away for a few minutes then comes back ???
I've swapped out the power valves, but this hasn't fixed it.
Flicking the 5/15/30 switch seems to aggravate it.
Any ideas what to do next would be appreciated.

did a gig last nyt and it was fine, seems to be intermittent.

Are'nt those symptoms of possibly a bad pre-amp tube?
