I often play small clubs without micing the amp. I find the combo produces a very narrow and direct sound output. Move a few feet to either side and the sound completely changes. I usually tilt up the amp but its still not a wide enough radius for my liking. Do you fellas have any proven ideas on how to address this? I seen somewhere here where someone hangs a cd from the grill right in front of the speaker cone as an example.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the matter.

I have played literally hundreds of bar gigs with an open-back 1x12, and I always had better results if the cabinet was placed in front of a hard, reflective surface. This really opens it up and spreads the sound around.

This has really helped me in past - but haven't used on my M5 yet: http://www.webervst.com/blocker.html - same idea of the "cd in front of the amp". Should be an easy install in the combo - does cut down tremendously on that "beam-i-ness"

Thanks Steve0 I agree and have had the opportunity to do that in a few venues and it does help.

Appreciate the recommendation kingb. I did a cursory search right after my post and found a few similar devices.

Knotts. This one intrigues me most. That fella Jay delivered a compelling and highly detailed reason why it would work. I'm going to try it within a week or so. I have some acoustical foam left over from my studio treatment and it seems like a very easy install. A Great find and a much appreciated recommendation.

Cheers guys...thanks for the quick reply and help.

All the best

Let me know how you make out. I want to do it too, but I'm just short on time right now.

I have two combos I run in stereo.

This is a problem for me too.

Can't wait to see what is up and find the time to read the TGP post.
