Calling on the wise!

I spent years building a rack only to finish it off with a TC G-System Limited, and find that it changes your basic tone alot more than the marketing suggests!!! So that's all being sold and I am going the pedalboard route.

I wanted to get people's opinions on the best chorus and compressor pedals.... I currently considering the Boss CE-2 and Keeley Compressor. The key thing for me, having had the disappointing rack experience, is to get pedals that don't detract from the gorgeous dynamics and tone of my Lonestar.

BTW - anyone looking for a great footcontroller check this baby out! http://www.thegigrig.com/acatalog/TheGigRig_Pro-14_BLack.html TheGigRig Pro-14

Thanks for any wisdom you can offer. And if anyone is interested in a pristine condition and great sounding Marshall JMP-1 make me an offer over PM.

Big fan of the Three Hound Chorus by Homebrew Electronics...

I would bet stomp boxes will introduce more noise, and quite possibly suck more tone. Is the g system like the g force in a pedal board?

all my boxes have true bypass.

i can unplug them, listen, plug them back in, listen, and hear zero difference.

I have the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone as a compressor for my clean stuff, and the Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor as a comp for my dirty stuff. The Pigtronix one is cool because it allows you to blend the compressed signal with the non-compressed signal. I've also got an older MXR Dyna Comp and was looking into getting the Marshall ED-1 comp, which looks pretty intriguing to me.

that pigtronic pedal must have stolen the blend idea from the Barber Tone Press....
it's the only other 'pedal' i know of that can blend the straight sound with the compressed sound, and it's been around for years.....

that's cool!

i think all compressors should have this capability...

it makes it infinitely variable.
it can be subtle, or squishy.

I'd be curious to know when the Tone Press was released.

On a side note, the other cool feature about the Pigtronix is that it has a "grit" control that adds a tiny amount of distortion to the compressed signal. All in all, it's a real cool pedal. Actually, I've got a couple Pigtronix pedals and each one of them is really cool.

at harmony central, the reviews go back to the end of 2002.

1st time i heard of it, was in Guitar Player Magazine April 2005 edition.

David Barber's had a long time to perfect this gadget...
that's why it's so popular.

that, and it isn't so expensive as a lot of the other units.....

i've owned an original Ross compressor, an original script MXR Dynacomp, as well as typical stomp boxes like the boss CS-3, none of them could do what the tone press does.

All great stuff guys thanks. On the point of more noise than the G-System, I can live with that, but the pedals won't suck more tone. Plus i'm using a GigRig Pro-14 which is a great pedalboard controller. Already using that with about 24 metres of George L cable making a four-cable method and have no loss of tone or dynamics. Even I was surprised at that!

Mark Humphrey Audio Mods makes a really effective compressor that I've used for years. CS-3 atom smasher...top notch and affordable.

I've noticed that no seems to have recommended a chorus pedal. Well, I personally have the EH Small Clone and the Visual Sound H2O. I really like the H2O because not only does the chorus sound great, it also has a delay pedal that is pretty much independent of the chorus section (I say pretty much because you cannot change the order in which the two sections are, at least not to my knowledge). I also used to have a Boss CE-5, which I liked a lot from what I remember, though it's been years. I'd check out the H2O...

Thanks all! Some great suggestions including some that I have not heard of. Best get myself somewhere for some A/B'ing

Take a look at the Analogman Bi-Chorus - great sounding pedal and it has two sets of controls, so you can set one really subtle and just add some depth, and have the other side sound like a leslie, and switch back and forth between them.

Hardwire Chorus CR7. I like chorus again since I got one.

best compressors I've ever used:

Allums Opto Plus modded CS3
CMATMODS Deluxe "Ross" 4 knob
Barber Tone Press

in that order.....
