Anymore I think I dig channel 2 (on my 3channel Dual) for heavy rhythms and channel 3 for leads.

I always seem to be fighting the top-end on channel 3 for rhythms.
Maybe my guitar/pickups have lots of presence already.

Anyhow what are you digging these days?

I use Vintage on both channels (2 and 3) for metal core. It is what we used for our new CD as well. I tend to use channel 2 for leads because there seems to be more midrange in it's voicing, making it punch through the mix better (especially with Solo boost haha), and I use channel 3 for most of the rhythm stuff because it has more 'edge' to it, and I like that sharp attack sound. Settings are relatively close to these, with a little tweak here and there depending on the room (mainly the presence knob)

Thats funny my settings are nearly identical except I use the modern mode and like channel 2 for rhythm and 3 for leads.
Seems to me that the lower presence in Ch 2 is what makes it sound like it has more midrange and probably why I like it more.

I'll have to click over to Vintage and rock a set out.

Just noticed yours is a new 2010 Rec...when you switch from vintage to modern do they automatically switch in the optimized presence range for each mode? thanks.

cheers,

In the DR, aren't 2 and 3 exactly identical as far as voicing goes? Or is that only the new multi-watt DRs?

On the previous generation Duals Ch 3 has more presence than Ch 2.

I thought with new ones both channels were the same as well. When you switch from vintage to modern it changed the presence accordingly on both channels.

To me, when set up identically, channels 2 and 3 sound a little different. Channel 2 has a little more pronounced midrange, and channel 3 has a more scooped sound. It was like this with my older 3 channel Triple Rec, but the voicing on the new ones I like a lot better. I don't really mess with Modern mode too much, so I am not sure about the presence change there. I can mess with it more once I get home and try to see what it does. On tour right now, so my settings are pretty much set at the moment. I adjust presence depending on the venue's sound.

On a side note, I have been using a Stiletto cab on this tour for a lot of the shows (headliner's back line) and it has been neat to hear the difference in that and the Recto cabs.

Same here, I use the channel 3 (modern) for rhythm and channel 2 (modern) for leads. In channel 3 I also use a Boss OD-2 in the front and a Boss GE-7 in the FX-Loop. I think the channel 2 cuts in the mix better than the channel 3, but when I play alone I tend to use the channel 3 for licks and solos also.

What are your findings on the different cabs, which are you digging better, the stiletto or the oversized? Are the stiletto straight or angled cabs?

Reason I ask is I find the stiletto straight cabs to be close to the recto oversized slant, still has a little more midrange but gets closer because it has more internal volume.
