I'm gigging a Blue Angel 1;12 nearly every weekend. It's in a flight case, and it sits on top.

I'm a spare freak, spare tubes, cords, strings, mike, ect.

If the Angel goes down, and needs to go to California, my backup (a Fender Prosonic 2;10) won't fit in the case, and it could be gone for weeks.

A Carvin Nomad WILL fit in the case, and I could sell the Prosonic for more than the Carvin would cost.

Anybody ever gigged one of these amps? I worked with a guy with a Bel Air for several years and it seemed fine. (same amp I think, 1 less speaker). Not my first choice, but I'm talking backup/spare here.

Thanks in advance, love this forum.

One thing that I know for sure.....they come with matched EL84's :D
Groove Tubes nonetheless.

I couldn't resist....but really, I have a client that has one of the early production units that is his "go to" amp. To my ears, it's a very smooth sounding amp...not a whole lot of high gain distortion here, but it sounds much better and "driven" going through a 4 x 12. It fits his style of alt-country/old school rock. The amp is cold biased straight from the factory...at least his was. Biasing the amp to the tubes makes a world of difference...like all tube amps 8)

Take in consideration what you get from your Prosonic and what you will get from the Nomad may be worlds apart....

You know.....

On second thought.......

You're a pretty cool cat.

And I was really only razzin' ya.

Honestly, the Prosonic hasn't seen a stage since I bought the Blue Angel. And, I traded a Marshall JCM900 1/2 stack (4100, the 100 watt early version w/EL34's) for the Prosonic.

I'm not really into high gain anymore, (hence the blue Angel), and am really liking the smaller wattage amps cranked to the sweet spot, unmiked nearly always, in smaller 150/400 seat clubs.

If it's miked, it's very little, because it's cranked.

The Prosonic is a fantastic rig, and I may well keep it just because I don't see them losing much value, and it's a very unique design, a Zinky amp that will do class A tube rectifier w/6L6's, or A/B tube rectifier, or A/B ss rectifier, with a clean (no master volume) channel, and a dual cascading gain channel. And those (2) Celestion 10's say "Fender Custom Shop" on them.

But I'm gigging a lot, and a NEW Nomad is only $499.00, and, like I said, it'll fit the flight case, has a clean (non master volume) channel and my buddies Bel Air was a very dependable rig. I've never really heard any BAD reports about those amps, and it's becoming (in todays World) a very old design.

Thanks HipKitty. I enjoy your insight. You are into the machines. I'm basically a bar playing, beer drinking guitar player that's been doing it since (before) Bad Co. came out. You have your experiance's, and God knows, I could tell you some stories................

You can hear some tunes at cdbaby.com search Double Aught. I wrote and sang # 2,3,6,9,10,and 12. 10 and 12 have sold several downloads this year in the U.K. for some damned reason. That cd is 8 years old.

Best of luck.

Murphy Slaw, all is good!

The Prosonic is definitely a keeper if you can afford to do so.

Score the Nomad, let it's warranty run it's course and I'll detail out you can do the biasing yourself with watever matched tubes you choose..and if you're real handy with a 40 watt soldering iron, I can direct you to some component upgrades that you'll not be disappointed with.

Peace to you my brother in tone!

BTW...I remember when Bad Co. formed from the ashes of Free...doh! I'm showing my age again

I'm hip to the (Nomad) mods, but, really am just considering this as a spare for my Blue Angel. A LSS 1;12 will also fit the flight case, so that's another option, but, again, I'm just thinking short term (3/4 weeks) spare stuff.

I'm a Boogie man. Did I mention I ordered a BOOGIE badge for it? Just to mess with peoples heads.

Best to all.
