I want to have a seperate volume for my R1 so I can put the Volume 1 up so I can have enough gain on my Lead Channel, and be able to switch to my clean channel and have a seperate Volume knob so I can put it at the desired volume, allowing me to switch between Clean/Lead without having to turn the Volume 1 down. I play Prog Metal with jazz clean interludes so I need plenty of gain and clean cleans. By turning up the Volume 1 to where I can get the preffered gain level, when I switch to R1, Iit's too loud for my tastes and has break-up. Also, is it normal that I get breakup at 4 and above??? Thanks

You answered your own question:

Turn down the guitar's volume knob to clean up, and reduce the volume. Working the guitar's volume control can yield many many shades of clean/overdrive textures. Running the guitar at "10" all the time is limiting. It sounds as if you are using the amp's volume controls for all your volume needs, when you're missing out on the knob on the guitar.
