Hi there - I just got hold of an early V-Twin on Ebay and sadly the seller was less than truthful about the condition. Managed to negotiate a price reduction but am left with a unit with no green 'clean' led and the power jack seems to be faulty so the unit shuts off every so often - thus useless for live work. I can strip it down to remove the tubes, knobs, cover plate etc but I can't release the top plate to see if the missing led is hiding inside. It's an early example, V2-00602, without the later clean to solo switch on the base. There are what look like two hexagonal bolts fused into the base and I'm wondering if these hold the secret to releasing the top place. Can anyone help so I can at least see what needs doing, even if means sending to an authorized repair shop. Thanks Pete

This is not a fun thing to take apart!

Take off the tube guard, pull the tubes, and remove the two other screws under it. (You've done that presumably.) Then there are four screws - two in the top either side of the LEDs, and two underneath at the front corners - these may be hidden by feet or rubber matting. (The hex anchors are for the PCB mounts inside and can't be undone.) Now, remove all the knobs and undo the nuts on the pots. You should now be able to lift off the top plate, but if you want to get at the insides easily it's best to undo the footswitches as well...

The good news is that the missing LED probably has just fallen inside, they're only held by hot-melt glue and are easy to push in if you stand on them. The power jack probably needs its center pin opening out slightly - it's a 'split' pin, and often gets a bit too squashed together - you can easily do it without taking the pedal apart at all.
