Curious if in my LSS I can use two EL-84's that I managed to pick up for a decent price without filling all four slots. The idea would be to check them out on the 5 watt setting. I'm not sure if they go inside together or outside on the ends? I believe that is how they are grouped? If they work ok, I'm gonna pick up another pair and fill all four slots eventually. Is this just a completely crazy idea? Thanks. Jeff

I know you can drop V1 and V4 or V2 and V3 on a 100 amp with EL-34s NOT 84s .
I do not know for sure but I do not think you can drop EL-84s , I think the heaters
are series (el84 ) and parallel for the EL-34s . When you cut out two tubes w/ 34s
you also change the o/t's ohms . For example the 8 ohm tap will now " look " for 16 ohm load .
All I can help on the 84s = )
