I am looking at procuring either an Orange PPC212 cab or an Avatar Vintage G212 cab to go with my new amp.

My problem is that the Orange seems prohibitively expensive ($619!?). I know Orange cabs are supposedly the bee's knees but is it "twice the price" better than an Avatar? The Vintage Avatar, while not matching in tolex color, has a nice vintage Bluesbreaker look to it as well as a slanted baffle so it'd be easier to hear when standing in front of it.

What are your opinions? :?:

I have three Avatar cabs and IMO for the price they're pretty tough to beat. Another good cab maker I found is Lopo cabs. I wanted a 1-15" but couldn't find one anywhere until I found Lopo. The build quality is very similar to Avatar but I think the prices are even better. See them here:

I have an Avatar G212 Vintage Premier with a G12H30 and Vintage 30. Sounds wonderful with the Mark IV and it moves a lot of air. Very nice, full sounding 2x12s for the money.

The cheappier is the best ! :D
All of them are made with cheap wood.
You pay more for brand stuff.

I have marshall 1960 4X12 ,mesa boogie rectifier 4X12 and a 1X12 wich I made myself with celestium 75 Watts.
Micked and recorded they all sounded the same.
So I prefer my little one wich is cheappier than the others .
I don't spend money on BRAND's overpriced cabnets.

Do the measurements of the cab you want, buy wood,if you don't have any skills to build a box of wood !!! go to a marcenery and do it there.
Buy a celestium and put in it.
That's it at least for half price :D

But if you need a cab WITH a brand to fulfil your dreams,no problem just open your pockets

Rampage - I saw your pics, very nice cab indeed!

Well, I'm not really concerned with having a name brand at all, nor am I all that bothered by the cab not exactly matching the head.

That said, the Orange Rockerverb 50 head looks out of place on top of my Mesa Recto 212. Furthermore, due to the handle directly on top of the cab and the low profile feet on the head, it doesn't sit evenly on top... rocks back and forth a bit.

Thus, my requirements for a replacement are a cab with side handles and a "vintage" look that sounds great! The Orange sounds phenomenal, but is a bit more than I really want to part with right now. I have no idea how the Avatar sounds, but what I've read about it is all positive. Unfortunately, if it doesn't knock my socks off, there's not much resale value there. If the price difference was smaller, it'd be a no brainer.

Guess I need to see if I can find a buyer for the Recto cab first (they quoted me $200 for it in trade :( ).

Life's started to hand me a few lemons recently and I won't be able to afford the Orange 212 (or Genz Benz, for that matter... Guitarzan, I am looking at you! ).

I did, however, make enough from the sale of my Recto 212 to buy one of two Avatar choices. Do I get:

1) the larger Vintage G212 (black with wheat or slat and pepper grill),

or

2) the matching G212 Custom (Orange with wheat grill)?

If it's a choice between those two I'd go with the the larger Vintage G212.

I would go with the G212 Vintage. My friend has the standard and I've got the vintage and I definitely like the vintage more. More vibrant sound, easier to hear yourself, and it is a little more booming like a 4x12. I really like mine but I have been gassing for a Thiele/Thiele or Thiele/Halfback 1x12 setup so I am going to let it go.

Right now there is a dude from work who wants to buy it for $320 but he said he is strapped for cash right now. I always thought that was kind of odd, telling someone you want to buy something and not have money. Sure I would like to buy a Diezel VH4 but I don't have $4k sitting around... Oh well. He said that he would have the money on the 22nd so we'll see how that goes  .

Thanks to t0aj15's suggestion, I finally decided on this little gem loaded with V30s for a very fair price. Check it out!

Should be in when I return from vacation in mid-July. I'll post up some pics of all my gear and let you know how it sounds at that time! Thanks for all the opinions over multiple threads!
