Hello everyone, new to the board here.

i recently purchased a recto pre off ebay for about $650, basically i accidently won the auction...

anyway i get it home and hook it up to my 2:90/recto cab. the clean channel sounds great and is SUPER loud. but when i switch to the lead channels the volume dips so low its barely audible and sound tinny and scratchy. none of the knobs on the bottom row seem to do anything tone shaping for both channels seems to only work on the top row of knobs. the 2 gain knobs seem to work dependantly of each other. anyway it sounds like crap. ive tried using the recording outs and the live outs. but no difference.

is this busted?

ive sent a message to the ebay seller, but no response.

i bought this guy because my triaxis is acting up (randomly shutting itself off) and needed somthing to keep me going while its being repaired.

Thanks!

Might be a bad preamp tube.

I recently bought a Studio Preamp from Guitar Center.
It had a bad Mesa SPAX7 in the V1 position, temporarily cured it with a tube roll.
Picked up a set of JJ silver pins and everything is fine.

Swap your 6 preamp tubes around.
See if that changes anything. If it does, its a preamp tube gone bad.

took the tubes out of my triaxis and still have the same issue. tried a few different combinations...no avail :(

guess i'll take it to guitar center and see how much the repair will be.

I don't know where you live, but there might be some better choices besides guitar center for amp repair.Sending it back to mesa is always a good option. If you're going to spend 150 to get it fixed I'd rather spend 250 and get it looked over and fixed proper buy the guys who put it together.Just my opinion.
Give Mesa customer service a call, maybe they can shed some light on your prob.

+1

Hang on, SenDep7, give some of the forum vets time to check out your post.
A person that might have had the same problem might not have seen your post yet.

Thanks!

fwiw, im just outside boston. i was under the impression that mesa didnt fix anything themselves, they just directed you to authorized mesa repair shops...guitar center is on that list.

Sent her off to Mesa. Gonna be a few bucks.

In other news since the tube shuffle my triaxis hasn't been acting up anymore. Although I've prolly jinxed it now.
