Hello again guys: for those using Mark IIC+ amps i would like to know which brand of tubes Both(New or NOS) work best for you or are giving you best results.. Mine its a sixty watts combo

Can never go wrong with STR-415's.

I had a pair in a 60 watt C+ I had, and it sounded great!!!

and on the preamp what you use?

I used Sylvania ecc83/7025's.

I have not tried any of the other NOS tubes. I hear ei, rft, telefunken, and tungsram are great though.

For new, Winged =C= 6L6 are really nice.

Sound very close to my STR 415s to my ear.

That's no lie right there.
I have a pair of the STR-415's in one of my Mark IIIs paired up with some vintage Tesla EL34s. Talk about some of the best power tube distortion I've ever heard. Very big, round, rich, sweet,sassy,spongy,heaven,god..yeah, all of those.

To counter the argument
I think my mkIII stinks , still waiting for caps
to arrive for the mods & psu

I have a few Boogie service bulletins from way back
one where they recommended a 2.7k between the
screen & plate for the outside class A sockets to use
the " European " tubes presumming they meant the
difference in construction from EL 34 to the 6CA7's
which i prefer the el34's but it's the mkIII
and far better then the 5881's people were pushing at
the time of the no more U.S. tubes scare are some
u.s. syvainia str 387 i still have a few of .

I'll dig up the notes and post them in a day or two

Oh, George..I'm flattered to know your my biggest fan.

We can always share our love for Boogie's over a slice at the Dover House or where ever you want. And maybe I can even wipe the grease off your face for you.

I do not own a a 60 watter, so I cannot honestly reply to this post (with the plate and bias voltage being different from the 105 simul version). Can't we all just get along? 8)

Ah Nep he asked for tube advice for a C+ not as relates to your beloved MkIII's. You just can't help yourself can you.
The C+ will always be an overprice waste of money in your opinion. Yet in many threads that get started about a C+ you have to interject citing your MKIII's. Anything to validate your love for the MkIII. Yes this is harsh response and it is meant to be. Your pompous 'know it all, opinion/ attitude' distaste toward C+'s even though you know little to nothing about them (other than their price) is an insult to any thread asking for advice/ info related to a IIC+.

I can offer this having a legit direct first hand experience due to having owned a MKIII for 25+ years (bought it new form Mesa) as well as various configurations of IIC's and IIC+'s as well as a MkIV. And also direct first hand experience with a MkIIA a dear friend has owned since new in 1979 as well as with his MkIIB.
The STR-415 works great in all of them.

I dont see anywhere in his post in this thread where he downed on the IIC+. Anyone else see it either? He was simply giving a suggestion of tubes that he uses in his Mark III which is still in the same series as the IIC+. By you saying that the STR-415 "work great in all of them" you indeed fit the picture I posted. Seeing many other post about the STR-415 as being the "golden tube" for the IIC+, I have a hard time seeing how this is an insult in any way shape or form to this thread considering that any one of the IIC+ cork sniffers will suggest it anyway. You act like there is this HUGE difference in sound with a IIC+ and a III like your comparing a Marshall Plexi to a Dual Rec, which is hardly a comparison. I havent played a IIC+ in person but from recordings and other clips that Ive listened to, I dont see as big of a difference as youre making it out to be. If there was THAT big of a difference then there would be no need to call it the Mark series.

To be completely honest, the difference may or may not be that great depending on your guitar, speakers, music preference, etc.... One thing for sure is that a recording, clip, or otherwise will not give you the big picture. It has to be a side by side comparison, with you playing the guitar, with a fair (DRG vs. DRG) or similar shootout. As they say, YMMV. 8)

Where's Mr. Stergiou? Is he scared a 'brother' will show him up? Speak up. Your preserverance and downgrade of new members ( by your infamous faces of    ) will no longer be tolerated to the Boogie board ( at least by me, before I get to you.) Even your attribute to your infamous headshells only digs further into your ego. You've fooled enough of us, Mr. Stergiou. Look no further,I got dibs on you first England boy. You don't even know what you started, old man.

Sorry to stray off topic here. If I get a set of SED tubes from the tube depot what rating should they have? Will they know what to send me if I tell them what amp they are for?
