I've been playing humbucker/tappable humbucker guitars for 20 years and tried a strat for the first time a couple of weeks ago. A nice different sound for me, particularly on the neck pickup.
The nicest I've tried so far was a Fender Custom Shop 69 NOS (sweet and barking, with a very authoritative hollow sound if that makes sense), but while the other 2 pickup sounded OK they didn't match the quality of the neck pickup.
Anybody got any suggestions on what else I should consider, or should I go for the 69 and just replace the 2 other pickups? I was thinking of a tele pickup in the bridge for that sort of twang, but have no idea on the middle pickup.
