I've seen lots of settings for the Mark series amps floating around the web but not all that many for the Rectoverb 25. Anybody got any go to settings for metal on the ROV25? Mine arrives tomorrow and I'd love to start off on the right foot with it!

Everything at noon and turn the master up (you won't get the amp's tone without some volume). Choose your favorite between vintage and modern. Set gain where you like it.

The rectoverb has a characteristic tone, it's not super-tweakable. You should get its best pretty much right out of the box, and then salt-and-pepper to taste.

The Mark is way more sensitive to tone settings, and you have to balance gain and bass settings to avoid flub. The recto, not so much.

Great, thanks guys! I did start with the manual but I was looking to hit Metallica territory and thought maybe someone had a go to setting they used. I took your advice Elvis and I'm glad I did. Thanks again, boys.

Have you looked at the sample settings that are in the manual? They are great starting points.

+1. The settings in the manual will get you real close with any humbucking guitar to just what they say. Find one in the book that sounds like the tone you'd want, and it should be close. Dial from there.

On the gain channel, I rarely have both Mids and Bass over 10:00. Sometimes one or the other, depending on what tone you're going after, but rarely both of them at the same time.

I have renewed my love of my Mini Rec, and LOVE the Vintage channel.

Interestingly, I have never liked any of the manual sample settings for any of the many Mesa amps I've owned. sometimes I find a setting in a video I like, but rarely. YMMV, naturally.

interesting indeed, because I've never liked the "everything at noon" approach with the Mini Rec. I know we like a lot of similar tones. I don't have any cabs with Black Shadow C90s though, which could be part of it. But I rarely have bass and mids over 10:00 at the same time, and many tones I use have both at or under 10:00. Both at noon starts to get to thick, for my tastes.

I always thought it interesting that people get similar tones with different settings.

For me, the best starting point for the rectifiers is noon across the board. You might wind up setting it differently with tweaking, but at least you get the spirit of the amp there. My Mark experience is very different. With that, you have to start out with mids and bass lowered.

My current settings on the Mini Rec (for classic rock) are:
Clean
25W
Clean or pushed, I go back and forth
Gain 12:00
Treble 1:00
Mid 10:30
Bass 1:30
Presence 12:00

Lead
25W
Vintage
Gain 10:30
Treble 1:00
Mid 12:00
Bass 3:00
Presence 12:00

I also have a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V1 and Mullard EL84.

I played it through a variety of cabs, including 4x10 and recto 2x12 with the same settings. For my RV25 I had a combo which really altered the tone. I had to work on the treble and bass quite a bit. I wish I had put it on top of a Thiele and had NOT put it on a stand. It's amazing how much bass you lose when you pick an amp up off the floor.

I see a big reason you can get away with more bass. My current setting on Vintage is gain at 1:00. I'll try yours tonight.

Mesa amps do well for gain when accompanied by a tube screamer in front. It shapes the bass nicely.
