Friend of mine has a 50 watt JCM 800 combo (model 4104.) As you can imagine, it sounds awesome, but only at wildly impractical volumes. It's too loud to jam at my house, much less practice in his 2-bdrm apt.

I imagine this is a pretty common issue, and I'm wondering if anybody knows if there's an attenuator/power soak on the market that is "the" solution for JCM 800s. Tone maintenance is a bigger issue than money. I know there's a couple amp techs here...

A lot of people seem to like the HotPlate. There are some others that people here really like as well... just do a search on this board and you'll find plenty of info.

thanks guys. I'm familiar with the Hot Plate and Weber's stuff; I was just wondering if there was a particular JCM 800 "recipe" since they're a popular tonehound amp.

much appreciated. :)

lol, not to the rest of the people in his building. maybe they just don't like Marshall tones.
