I use my TOV with an open back 2x12 (celestion GB and 12H speaker combo) but I'm not a metal guy, just classic rock, blues. I love the open back sound, it has so much more swirl and fills the room better IMHO. Plus on stage (liitle pubs no micing) my drummer can hear me a lot better.
yes, I think it cuts better and also is louder, then a closed back cab. some 2x12 (I think avatar? ) comes with the option of using it as a closed back or open back. Again what style of music do you play? I think if you do metal you might like a sealed cab better? I love an open back cab best.
the TOV I had was the 212 combo cab... 2 V30s below the chassis with basically a 3/4 back configuration...
that baby would cut through anything, much less a crowded mix...
