Has anyone tried a lonestar 2x12 cab with the mark V? Since the combo comes with a open back was wondering how a head with a lonestar cab since its open back with maybe vintage 30's would sound. Looking at buying a head to cut the weight so a 4x12 cab is out of the question, used to own a 2x12 recto and didn't really bond with it and they arn't light either.

I have both a horizontal 2x12 Recto cab (V30s) and a 3/4 back 2x12 (C90s), and I prefer the sound of the open back with the Mark V. The Recto cab has a more focused sound with more bottom to it, but the 3/4 back cab has a certain ambience to it that the Recto can't touch. I also prefer the tone of the C90s with the Mark, but that's just my personal preference.

I bought a barely used custom ordered lonestar cab that has black piping instead of the silver so it matches the Mark V head better. It also has 2ea vintage 30 8ohm speakers that are wired independent so cab could be stereo. It sounds pretty good to me but always wonder what C-90"s would sound like and also how it would sound if I closed the back up with some birch plywood.

I'm actually contemplating pulling the V30s out of the recto cab and trying them in the 3/4 back to see what that sounds like, just waiting for that burst of motivation! To me, the C90s just seem smoother and warmer, whereas the V30s are a bit punchier. Not sure how much of that is the cab and how much is the speakers, though.
