Anyone running 10" or 15" speakers with their Marks?

I am running my mark III into a 4x12 and a 2x15 with Jaguars. The 15s really bring out hte bass response the mark III has on tap. I couldnt imagine playing it without the 15s.

A while back I had a Fender Vibrolux Reverb with a pair of Electrovoice "Force" 10's in my shop. I plugged my MkIII head into the speakers and thought they sounded fantastic. A little lacking on bottom end for my taste but for solo leads they really had it going on. Too bad they no longer make those Force series speakers.

I have an old(ish) recto 4x10 (sadly discontinued i think)with jensen speakers which i love to use in the house for clean stuff or bluesy/fusiony lead type stuff. It was my plan when i bought it to take that and my mesa 2x12 to gigs to hook up to my trusty old mark 2 and 3 heads that i play live. There,s no doubt it would sound cool the 2x12,s for bottom end thunk and the 4x10 for more high end definition and spread of sound but apart from needing a removal van every time i did a gig and getting bigger venues to play in i think it was a mesa boogie pipe dream lol.The 2x12,s do more than an adequate job anyways and i actually prefer using them to 4x12,s as well as they still have enough bottom end to rock but sound better when playing cleaner stuff.

With my Mark III I've been using a Mesa 2x10 Powerhouse and a Augilar GS210 for heavy stuff.
With my Mark IV I've been using a Mesa 4x10 Powerhouse.
With my M-180 you can use any of the above.
While the mark's do sound good used as combo's I think the single speaker limits the amp. The mark's sound much better when you can really crank the master. The bass cab's do a better job with higher power. I like my mark's alot more after I started using bass cabs. PIA to gig with but worth the effort. I have noticed better tube life, less tube problems and better sounding reverb using seperate cabs. Less vibrations the amp see's the better, IMO.

15" Mark I combo does the business bigtime! Personally I prefer the 15" to the 12" - you don't need to turn the bass up as much because it naturally has a great bottom end, but if you do turn it up at all then you get a beautiful response. It handles it much better.

I like the Electrovoice 15" speakers because, like the EVM12L, they tend to have a very focussed top end. Obviously you lose some of that with the increase in size, but it works great as a 15" speaker.

If I had the woodshop tools I'd run with the idea myself but I've often thought of building a vertical 2x10 combo cab for the short Mark chassis. Just guessing you could also fit a pair of 10's in a widebody combo box. But my favorite idea is building a 1x12 combo cab for the short chassis which was say about 6 inches taller with the speaker rear loaded giving the compact combo a bigger resonance. And how bout putting a slot above the amp chassis for a single space rack peice ala Gmajor or other FX device. Hope you see this George.

I've got two Avatar 4-10" cabs loaded with Celestion G10 Vintage speakers that sound really good with my Mark IV (looks really good too as a stack), but my favorite (by a wide margin) of all the speakers I've tried with the Mark IV is a 15" Eminence Commonwealth speaker mounted in a LOPO sealed back-front loaded cab. The sound is just HUGE without having to haul a big box around. It's by far my favorite speaker. They also make the same speaker in a 12" size.

I have had my eye out for a marshall 1965 cab (4x10 loaded) since I got my Mark 4. There was an older Mesa 4x10 guitar cab locally pretty cheap a few months ago but I missed it. I'm guessing it is going to sound pretty sweet.

You really don't need lot's of expensive wood working tools to turn out great cabs. A good skill saw, jig saw, and drill. I did custom audio for 13 years, you would be suprised at the simple box designs you can turn out in several hours. Check you pawn shop for good tools on the cheap.

I'm using a 15" Eminence legend with my Mark IIb & it works great with my 50's classic Strat (Callaham hardware , Lil'59 ,Pearly Gates for Strat & RW.R.P;. in the middle position ), but for my Peerles New York with its Seymour Charlie Christian P.U. I like to add a couple of Greenbacks for a more focused sound . My home made cabinet is Italian poplar plywood ,courtesy of a Guitar Player prescription in the early 90's.
