Anyone add 2" casters to a 5:50?

I would like to roll it around my basement, desk, couch, etc.

Is it a pain to remove the reverb tank to drill the
holes and then put the reverb tank back in after?

My amp (2x12 combo) came with casters, maybe you're wanting something different than the stock snap-on casters? I don't see why they wouldn't work for rolling around the basement.

Hi All

I bought a "fold up" hand truck at Costco, I move my 550 around quite easily with it. It folds flat and extends for height. It's light and tucks out of the way easily. I've had casters on amps and I prefer this handtruck for moving the 550 around.

+1 on the folding hand truck. I have one and use it for everything. Takes up minimal space and carries 300lbs.

The folding hand truck is a great way to go. Back when I had my vox combo and then later the Marshal Artist 3203 amp and 4x10 cab, that is what I used. I still have the lightweight folding luggage hand truck! You could also go with a small four wheel dolly like the type that are made for large planters. I have one in my Lanai that I purchased at Lowes, looks good and hold a ton of wieght.

I know that the Express series is Mesa's "budget" line of amps, but even if they're cheaper than a Mark or DR, they're still pretty expensive. Why not just get a good road case to protect the amp on all sides? Since your case would have casters, you could just leave the amp in the bottom tray. Seems like an obvious solution to me.

Removing the reverb tank is just removing one of two small philips head screws that goes through a Cordura strap across the middle of the tank to hold it at the bottom of the combo. Remove the rear panel and the strap & screw will be very obvious and easy to get you where you're going.

The castor kits require drill, bits and I think a 3/8" hex wrench etc. Anyone with a few tools and decent mechanical inclination can do the installation. And while Mesa's castor sets are some of the better ones you can get, there is something to be asaid about some of the folding hand trucks out there. :wink:
