I was just wondering if anyone was able to dial in a tone that was somewhat like dimebag's tone. If anyone has a good setting please replay thank you.

I think the key is to use lots of gain, scoop the mids, dime the presence, and put the 6600 slider all the way up.

Why would you do that to a Mark V?

Because Its the most versatile amp on t he market and I wanted to do a little bit of Pantera songs namely Cowboys from hell. I mean I know thats not what mesa boogie does not really make amps for that type of sound. But I figured since it has all the EQ knobs/sliders there might be a way to squeeze out cowboys from Hell.

My amp is packed up for moving, so I can't experiment to try to get that awful tone. Still, try this:

Mark IV mode, triode, 10 watts
Gain: 5:30
Master: 9:00
Presence: 3:30-5:30
Treble: 4:00-5:00
Mids: 8:30
Bass: 8:30

GEQ:
80 Hz: up all the way
6600 Hz: up all the way
other slides: down nearly all the way

What tones do you guys like from the late 80's early 90's Metal/Thrash/Ext Metal Bands?

Just asking because I would be interested to know and I have been wanting to ask for awhile, this topic just kind of reminded me of it.

I love Metallica master of puppets and that tone came from a mark II-C and a Marshall (I would like to say more from the mark II-c but they did use Marshell for some). But the first thing that Metallica did before recording the whole album was going out and picking up those heads. Randy roads crazy train is a no brainer. Same with Tony Iommi in heaven and hell. Kurt Cobain lithium(not a huge fan of grunge but love that song and the tone). A little earlier in the 1980s Iron maiden aces high and most defiantly run to the hills. Zakk wylde No more tears the whole album. But for me i tend to like the bands that came out of nowhere Slipknot, Lamb of God,Rammstein, System of a down, Children of Bodom,Dope,Five finger death punch, the list goes on and on. The classics are always there and i love them but me the newer bands recaptured the metal sound that was lost in the grunge era.On my playlist for my MP3 player there are maybe 3 punk songs 2 or 3 odd balls. But everything else is either metal, death metal,Power metal, Groove metal, Symphonic metal, Gothic metal,I would say "nu-metal" but i have not touched korn and never will and they to me are the only ones that are truly "nu-metal", and Industrial metal. Metal head, Maggot, member of the congregation, COBHC For life end of story.

Also forgot if anyone wants to know about some of the types of metal I have listed or have parents who think there music is evil. Have them watch this Metal: A Headbanger's Journey it probably will help them understand Plus its a good movie for those who want to explore the beginnings of metal along with everything that comes with being a metal head.
